What you need to know about Coronavirus

Up to date, there have been 337,469 cases, 14,647 deaths worldwide related to Coronavirus (in short, COVID-19) according to Worldometers.

This epidemic has evolved to become a pandemic & has captured attention from authorities worldwide and awakens many individuals to take preventive measures against it. On top of that, many are also seeking ways to help those who are affected by this pandemic.

What is Coronavirus & what do I need to know about it?

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), “Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.”  WHO also provides very up-to-date information about the disease here.

What if I need to travel during this period?

We all have that great travel planned out that you can’t wait to hop on the airplane to get out of your world into another. But this might be the worst time to travel. According to Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), 3 types of notices highlight countries with different warning levels that you might need to take note when traveling. The top countries that CDC advised not to travel to are Iran, Europe, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Ireland, China & South Korea.

How about happenings closer to home – Malaysia?

Malaysia has confirmed a total of 1,306 coronavirus-positive cases as of 15 March 2020 based on this website. Companies are starting to practice working from home and making strict measures to quarantine all who have traveled overseas or have suspected contact with individuals who were tested positive for COVID-19. At MoneyMatch, we also ensure our team’s health as the highest priority by practicing to work from home.

We strongly encourage individuals to go digital instead of being in crowded areas. Making any contact in banks or public areas is not recommended at this moment in time. Thus it’s wise to use online platforms like MoneyMatch to transfer money to your loved ones overseas or pay your suppliers in another country.

What can I do about it?

Social distancing, cleanliness, washing hands, staying hydrated, wear masks if you are sick are all important measures to ensure we do not contract the virus nor be a carrier of it. We would like to encourage everyone from parents & children to business owners, to go digital.

We are giving out a promo code COVID19 with a discount of RM8 off for all our existing users to transfer with us and to help businesses in this dire time. This promotion will end on 30 April. T&c applies.

Other than taking preventive measures to ensure cleanliness & hygiene, we can give to those in need. Our team in MoneyMatch identified some organizations that you can consider donating to:
